SAN DIEGO -- Point Loma Nazarene women's soccer forward Katie Pedlowe was selected as a San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month for December on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Among the other Stars of the Month are a rock-steady if unsung lineman, a Heisman Trophy winner and a star soccer player.
Reggie Bush, the ex-Helix High running back, reinvigorated his career with the Miami Dolphins and finished the month with four 100-yard plus games, topped by a 203-yard performance against Buffalo.
Jeremy Clary of the San Diego Chargers simply gave quarterback Philip Rivers more time to toss the ball; as a result the team won three of its four games in the month. For the past two years, the soft-spoken Clary has not missed a game on offense.
Kraig Chiles has been the face of the San Diego Sockers pro soccer team for years, and stepped up his game to an even higher notch as the defending league MVP scored 14 goals and had nine assists as San Diego roared out to a 5-0 record.
Former La Costa Canyon standout Natalie Hagglund led USC into the NCAA championship round and was selected as a Volleyball Coaches Association All-America first team player as a libero. She was one of five amateur athletes cited for their performances.
Joining Hagglund and Pedlowe were SDSU football standout Colin Lockett, USD women's basketball star Morgan Woodrow, and Cal State San Marcos basketball player AJ Chamberlain.
On the high school front, unbeaten wrestler Connor King of Poway topped the list of a half-dozen honorees selected in conjunction with the San Diego Union-Tribune. The others included Helix's Kacy Smith, Poway's Brian Guendling, Christian's Shane Dillion, San Ysidro's Javion Watson and La Jolla Country Day's Kelsey Plum.
