SAN DIEGO—The Point Loma women's volleyball team and head coach
Jonathan Scott have announced the signing of Division I transfer, Celeste Friesen, this week. Friesen will be joining the Sea Lions after two seasons with Georgia State in Atlanta.
In her two seasons with the Panthers, Friesen had a huge impact on the Georgia State defense. She played in every match as a freshman and a sophomore, and only missed two sets as a freshman. Her 566 digs and 4.96 digs per set as a sophomore both ranked as second all-time in Panthers history for a single-season. In addition to a successful two years with the Panthers, she was a nationally recognized high school talent. She helped lead her high school team to an undefeated season and a Georgia state championship while being named a finalist for several Player of the Year awards.
"Celeste comes from a rich volleyball background, primarily out of A5 Volleyball club in Atlanta," said Point Loma head coach
Jonathan Scott. "She has also excelled as a starting libero for Georgia State, so we know that she will contribute right away."
Friesen will look to solidify the Sea Lions, which struggled with consistency in 2017, due to the inexperience of their young team, PLNU had five regular rotation players who were true freshman. The presence of a veteran player as well as returning the core of last season's team could give the team a great outlook going into next fall.
